In 1983, Genadi Gikashvili graduated from the Georgian State Institute of Physical Culture, Faculty of Coaching.
From 1983 to 1988, he studied in the postgraduate program at the Central State Institute of Physical Culture in Moscow.
In 1990, he was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Sciences.
From 1988 to 2005, Genadi Gikashvili worked at the Georgian State Academy of Physical Education and Sport in the Department of Sports Games: initially as a lecturer, later as a senior lecturer, and eventually as an assistant professor.
From 2005 to 2007, he was a professor at the same academy, Head of the Department of Sports Games, and later Head of the Sports Games Division.
From 2007 to 2012, he served as a professor at the “Academy of Sport” Center at Ilia State University.
Since 2013, he has been a professor at the Department of Sports Games at the Georgian State Teaching University of Physical Education and Sport.
In 1992, Genadi Gikashvili became the president and head coach of “Kolkhi” – the first volleyball club founded in Georgia. Under his direct leadership, the women’s team “Kolkhi” won the national championship titles in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999, and became beach volleyball champions in 1998 and 1999.
Under his guidance, in 2002, 2003, and 2004, the men’s volleyball team of the Georgian State Academy of Physical Education and Sport won the Georgian national championship; in 2003, they also became champions of the Georgian Universiade.
In 2009, under his leadership, the women’s team of Ilia State University won first place in volleyball at the Georgian Universiade.
He participated in the XIV International Scientific Congress (Kyiv, 2010) and the XXII Congress (Tbilisi, 2018) on “Olympic Sport and Sport for All.”
Genadi Gikashvili has published 32 scientific papers and authored 29 books in the field of volleyball. He holds the honorary title of Merited Worker of Sport in Georgia.
