From 1976 to 1982, Giorgi Pharulava studied at the Georgian State Agrarian University, where he specialized in Plant Protection at the Faculty of Agronomy.
From 1984 to 1988, he pursued postgraduate studies in the field of Invertebrate Animal Systematics at the Zoological Institute of Saint Petersburg.
From 2004 to 2006, he studied in the doctoral program at the Durmishidze Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, specializing in Biochemistry and Biotechnology.
From 1982 to 1984, he worked as Head of the Agro Unit in the village of Kakha, Zugdidi District.
From 1988 to 1992, he worked as a biology teacher at Vocational School No. 103.
From 1989 to 1991, he served as an inspector for chemistry-biology and labor education at the Zugdidi District Education Department.
From 1990 to 1993, he headed the Ecological Laboratory of the Georgian Green Movement.
From 1991 to 1996, he was Head of the Methodology Cabinet at the Zugdidi Zonal Institute for Teacher Training.
From 1991 to 1999, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biomedical Sciences at Zugdidi Independent University and concurrently worked as an Associate Professor.
From 1996 to 1999, he was Director of the Zugdidi Zonal Institute for Teacher Training.
From 1999 to 2007, he was Director and Professor at the Zugdidi Branch of the Georgian Academy of Physical Education and Sport.
From 2007 to 2011, he served as Director and Professor at the branch of Ilia State University.
From 2009 to 2011, he was Director and Professor at the University of Tourism and Sports LLC.
From 2011 to 2014, he was Director of the public college “GAMA.”
Since 2013, he has been working as a Professor at the State University of Sport of Georgia.
From 2014 to 2023, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the same university and simultaneously held the position of Professor.
In 1988, he defended his dissertation on “Leafrollers of Georgia” and was awarded the degree of Candidate of Biological Sciences.
In 2006, he defended his doctoral dissertation on “Biotechnological Methods to Improve the Efficiency of Controlling Harmful Strains of Leafrollers” and was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences.
He has experience teaching the following courses: Vertebrate Zoology (as an invited lecturer at TSU), Invertebrate Zoology (invited lecturer at TSU), Medical Biology, Bioethics, General Biology, Ecology, and Environmental Protection (depending on affiliation).
He has published over 100 scientific papers. He is the author or co-author of 8 books, editor of 12 books, and reviewer of 8 books.
He is an honorary member of the International Pedagogical Academy and, since 2009, a full member of the Georgian Academy of Ecological Sciences.
Since 1984, he has participated in scientific expeditions, including the taiga of Western Siberia, the shores of Lake Baikal, and Krasnoyarsk Region in 1985–1986, as well as numerous zoological expeditions across Georgia from 1984 to 1999. Since 1996, he has annually participated in short-term expeditions in various regions of Georgia.
In recent years, he participated as a speaker in several international scientific conferences, including the 2022 and 2023 “Health and Sport” international scientific conferences held in Tbilisi, and the December 2024 international scientific conference in Tbilisi titled “Geopolitics, Natural Sciences, Health, and Sport.”
