In 1973, Murad Garuchava graduated from the Faculty of Chemistry at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University with a qualification in Chemistry.
From 1976 to 1979, he pursued postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Chemistry of Leningrad (Saint Petersburg) State University.
In 1981, he defended his Candidate’s dissertation on the topic: “Metabolism of 2,4-D in Food Crops and Its Influence on Certain Cellular Processes.”
He was awarded the academic degree of Candidate of Biological Sciences (Specialty Code: 03.00.04) by the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR.
In 2003, he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic: “Transformation of Herbicides Derived from Phenoxyacetic Acid in Agrocenosis.”
He was awarded the academic degree of Doctor of Biological Sciences (Specialty Code: 03.00.04) by the Council of Expert Scientists of Georgia.
From 1973 to 1975, he worked at the Transcaucasian Scientific-Research Hydrometeorological Institute as a Senior Technician and Junior Research Fellow.
From 1980 to 2005, he worked at the Department of Organic and Biochemistry of the Georgian Zooveterinary University, serving in the following positions: Senior Laboratory Assistant, Assistant, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, and Professor.
From 2003 to 2005, he was a member of the Dissertation Defense Council of the Zooveterinary University.
From 2005 to 2018, he served as an Associate Professor at the Georgian Agrarian University, following the merger of the Zooveterinary and Agrarian Universities.
From 2006 to 2012, he headed the Quality Assurance Office of the Faculty of Food Technology at the Agrarian University.
From 2007 to 2012, he was a member of the Representative Council of the Agrarian University.
In 2009, he chaired the commission for academic staff appointments.
Until 2009, he participated annually in the National Examinations.
Since 2010, he has been a member of the Scientific Board of the journal “Agrarian Georgia.”
Since 2013, he has been an Associate Professor and later a Professor at the State University of Sport of Georgia.
From 2014 to 2018, he served as Chairman of the Dissertation Council of the Faculty of Food Technology at the Agrarian University.
Since 2014, he has been a member of the Scientific-Consultative Council for Risk Assessment of Food Product Quality at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of Georgia.
From 2014 to 2020, he served as an accreditation expert for higher education programs at the LEPL National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement.
Since 2016, he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
In 2017, he became an academician of the Academy of Ecological Sciences.
From 2018 to 2021, he was a member of the Academic Council at the University of Physical Education and Sports.
From 2019 to 2021, he was an invited professor and scientific consultant at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Biosystems Engineering at the Georgian Technical University.
Since 2021, he has been a professor at the State University of Sport of Georgia.
Murad Garuchava has published over 100 scientific papers in the fields of biochemistry and functional nutrition, primarily in internationally refereed and indexed journals, including Scopus, Index Copernicus, Google Scholar, РИНЦ, Academia, ISSN National Centre, Biblioteka Narodowa, and World Cat.
He regularly participates in international and local conferences and seminars.
He is a research contributor to numerous grants and holds several authorship certificates.
He supervises bachelor’s and master’s theses and acts as a reviewer for candidate and doctoral dissertations and academic textbooks.
He leads bachelor’s and master’s academic programs.
He is the author of three core textbooks and co-author of several supplementary textbooks.
His scientific activity focuses on biochemical and physiological research during the training and post-competition periods of athletes.
He studies the biochemical and physiological effects of stress in athletes and its influence on athletic performance.
Other research areas include functional nutrition for athletes, molecular mechanisms of xenobiotic biotransformation in food crops, food additives, environmental monitoring, and remediation.
